Scholars of international repute, movers and shakers of industry and finance will be addressing investors at theKontogora Theatre Complex, Makurdi on Tuesday, June 25 as Benue State commences the 2013 Akata Fishing and Cultural Festival.
A statement issued in Makurdi on Thursday by Mrs. Rosemary Duamlong said Governor Gabriel Suswam would deliver the keynote address in the three- day programme which seeks to expose the economic opportunities of the state.
According to the statement, the 2013 Akata Fishing Festival would showcase the state's agricultural and cultural potential to the world.
'The festival allows fishermen in and outside Benue to display their talents. It also brings people of different cultural backgrounds to interact together' she said.
Aside the opportunity by the people to display their cultural creativity in dances and songs, the statement said the 2013 Akata Beauty contest designed to encourage young women in pursuit of excellence, keep their language and culture in their minds, show the beauty of a Tiv woman, empower the girls and give a platform for women to discuss and address issues affecting them would take place on Wednesday, June 26 in Benue State College of Education, Katsina Ala
'More contestants vying for the crown,' she said.
'It will also teach the girls a lot as it is not just about the good looks, it's also about confidence,' she said.
'To further add gusto to the festival, there will be performances from different musicians. The audience will be treated to rib cracking jokes' she said.
'Akata 2013 will be a wonderful, great festival for everyone to enjoy, it's something that's exciting and people who are coming to Benue will be in for a surprise' she added.
