The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Right Reverend Francis Amenu, has been elected Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana.
The clergyman, who until his election, served as the Vice Chairman of the Council, took over from the Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, after both complete their three-year tenure in office.
Rt. Rev. Amenu, a graduate in Mining Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, also holds a Diploma in Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of Ghana, and Master of Arts Degree in Christian Sacred Theology from Indianapolis University, U.S.A.
He has 28 years' experience in the ministry of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ghana and the United Kingdom as well as other international faith organizations.
Other newly elected members to the Council's executive committee are Rev. Father Kwame Larbi, Head of Orthodox Church of Ghana as Vice Chairman, and Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, out-going Ashanti Presbytery Chairman of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, succeeds Rev Dr. Fred Deegbe as the General Secretary.
The new officers have been introduced to the executive council and heads of Christian organizations constituting the Christian Council of Ghana at the Council's Annual General Meeting.
The out-going Chairman of the Council, Most Rev. Prof. Asante, expressed confidence that the new officers would use their rich experience to the benefit of the Christian Council of Ghana.
He, however, reminded them to beware of the high expectation of the public as reliable mediators in the political, social and economic challenges confronting the country.
Rt. Rev. Amenu urged the Council members and the entire Christian fraternity to rally behind the new executive committee to be able to discharge its duties well.
