Government to release seed money to new districts soon

Akwatia, April 8, GNA - Government will soon fulfill its promise of resourcing each of the newly created districts with one million Ghana Cedis as seed money, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal, Deputy Minister, designate for Local Government and Rural Development, has said.

Speaking at the first ordinary meeting of Denkyembuor District Assembly at Akwatia, Mr. Baba Jamal said that the amount was being taken care of in the 2013 national budget.

The Deputy Minister designate, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, said the seed money would enable the new assemblies to take off smoothly.

'Though young, the Denkyembuor district has the potential to grow rapidly and, I, therefore, call on all to utilize that potential.'

Mr. Baba Jamal advised the assembly members to work toward the development of the district and not to allow partisan politics to hamper their initiatives.

'During the General Election, I was a parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but now that I am an MP. I am for all the people of Akwatia and I am going to work in the interest of all,' he pledged.

Mr. Baba Jamal said his doors were widely open for the people irrespective of their political party affiliation.

He promised to use part of the MPs Common Fund to help develop all communities and asked the people to forget about the acrimony that arose during the last electioneering.
