Team of Population Youth (TOPY) is strongly against the action taken by the Government Communication Team led by the Minister of Information Hon Mahama Ayariga for trying to take Mr. Kwasi Pratt Jnr the editor in chief of the Insight Newspaper out of some TV and Radio programs.
TOPY as a youth group that believes in Unity, Truth and Civility won't sit down and watch leaders of this new administration or Government to be the kind that cannot be criticized. We believe that the days that individuals are not allowed to voice out or criticize Government in power are gone and must be abolished forever.
TOPY therefore, condemns the treatment meted on Mr. Kwasi Pratt Jnr on Metro TV, last Wednesday; the action we say was totally uncalled for. We strongly condemn it with all alacrity. The Minister of Information Hon. Mahama Ayariga and his subordinates in the Ministry of Information must act professionally. We all know Mr. Kwasi Pratt to be very objective in his criticism when it comes to social issues so any plan of taking him out from any platform will mean that this Government doesn't want to be criticized of which some of us will not allow it to happen.
The President of the Land His Excellency John Dramani Mahama told the Peace Council, "Tell me the truth, not what I want to hear". We really know that the President is not in favor of this action because he himself welcomes constructive criticisms irrespective of where its coming from, so therefore, we won't allow anybody, be it a Government appointee or any Minister to hide behind his incompetency to try and prevent the President from knowing the truth or what is happening on the ground. Such dubious actions should not be entertained in this new administration. Allow the likes of people with objective criticism to come out with their criticism so that this Government can enhance the Chapter Two of the Better Ghana Agenda.
