Show of Weakness, NPP

Show of Weakness, NPP
14.01.2013 LISTEN

The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. Proverbs 11

The sudden U-turn by the legal team representing the interest of NPP has weakness written all over it. What is happening with regard to the challenge of the legitimacy of the declaration of the current President of Ghana as the winner of the 2012 general election is no small matter and most will agree that it is a high profile one. Certainly, the nation has not witnessed anything of its kind.

Seasoned lawyers such as those representing the NPP should not be raising objections without concrete evidence to substantiate their position. Their action was haste, thoughtless, erratic and reactive; this is indeed a show of nervousness and weakness of case. Why would the legal team demonstrate such a behavior not only to their opponent, the public, but also to the world, if you are arguing from a position of strength?

The reason given by the legal team for rescinding their decision should have been considered prior to raising that objection. The composition of the entire justices of the Supreme Court is known to majority of people, especially to lawyers. Who appointed what justice to the Supreme Court is no secret either. The political affiliation or leaning of these justices should not be laborious to fathom in spite of the fact that the justices will try to hide such prejudice, a behavior which is encourage by the rule of conduct and practices of their profession.

In the past years the NDC has tried unsuccessfully to deride justices and judges publicly as harboring some animosity or prejudice toward their cases. Most of us are familiar with the phrase “killing the cat”. The fact was that the NDC had weak cases as evidence by the number of legal defeats suffered.

If the NPP does not believe that justice will be rendered then why waste time. Why have people on the edge, in suspense and raise political tension if you think somehow what you are engaged in is an exercise in futility.

Yes; this is a case about politics, however the lawyers are engaged in a matter of LAW and not a matter of politics, they should do their homework and hence their job right. The evidence will speak in the end.
