
President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday inaugurated a 24-member Transition Team with a call on them to execute their duties professionally and diligently to win international admiration.
He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was law abiding and would strictly adhere to all the rules and laws that would deepen democracy in the country.
Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur is the chairman of the team with Henry Newman, Chief of Staff, Bebako Mensah, Secretary to the President, Ben Hagan, Secretary to Cabinet, William Kwesi Aboah, Minister of Interior, Mohammed Mumuni, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Samuel Ofosu Ampofo as some of the statutory members.
Other statutory members are; Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dr Kwabena Duffour, Minister for Finance, National Security Advisor, National Security Coordinator, Head of Civil Service and the Head of the Local Government Service.
Mr Paul Victor Obeng, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Roger Angsomwine, Chief Director at the Presidency, Mrs Joyce Villars, Daasebere Kweku Ewusie III, President of Central Region House of Chiefs, Nana Soglo Alloh IV, Vice President of Volta Region House of Chiefs, and Dr Agyeman Badu-Akosa are some of the members of the team.
The rest of the members include; Mr A.K Bonney, Nana Oye Lithur, Human rights activist, Vitus Azeem, and Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary for the NDC.
The Advisory Council of the team is also made up of Right Honourable Joyce Bamford, Speaker of Parliament, Professor Akilakpa Sawyerr and Professor Marian Ewurama Addy, a Scientist.
President Mahama said the institution of the team was in line with Article 845 of the Transition Act 2012, which enjoins the President to constitute a transition team to arrange for the smooth transfer of power from one government to another after a general election.
He said: “That is why we have gone in for eminent and trusted persons to handle the team to ensure that everything was peaceful.”
Vice President Amissah-Arthur gave the assurance that the team would hold preliminary meetings that would cover all the aspects of the transition.
He said it was an honour to be part of the team, and he would do everything possible to ensure that the group executes its duties professionally.
