NAIROBI (AFP) - Dan Sserunkuma of Gor Mahia was named footballer of the year on Wednesday, as foreign players and coaches dominated the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) awards ceremony for the first time.
The Uganda-born winger, who finished ahead of Kenya Commercial Bank's Paul Kiogora, was widely expected to win after scoring 17 goals for Gor Mahia, who were narrowly beaten to the premier league title by Tusker on the last day of the season.
"I am grateful to be named the best player in Kenya. This means a lot to me, that I can only improve at my game if I continue performing at the top level for my club," said Sserunkuma, who becomes the first foreigner to win the award.
Gor Mahia Croatian-born coach Zdravko Logarusic was voted best coach as the club also took the individual awards for defender and midfielder categories.
