
THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Obuasi, Michael Edward Ennin was yesterday elected as the party's parliamentary candidate for the newly created Obuasi East constituency.
In an election supervised by the Obuasi Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr. Francis Addai Boateng, Mr. Ennin polled 178 votes to beat Mr. Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, a former Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, and Mr. Enock Anwhire Afoakwa, an assembly member for Bossman/Lowcoast electoral area who had 101 and five votes respectively.
The supporters of the candidate-elect who were clad in NPP colours, were excited as the incumbent was declared winner by the Electoral Commission official, chanted and jumped amidst drumming and dancing.
Mr. Ennin expressed appreciation to the delegates for reposing their confidence in him and commended his opponents for conceding defeat and also pledging to work with him to ensure victory for the party in the December polls.
Mr. Kennedy Kankam, the Ashanti regional Organizer of the party called on other contestant to support the winner for the growth of the party in the newly created constituency
A former Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Dr . Nsiah Asare who chaired the function, congratulated the incumbent MP and the aspirant for the peaceful conduct of the elections and urged them to work together to campaign for the 2012 election.
