The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, yesterday promised to establish a development fund for the Zongo communities to confront the socio-economic challenges facing the people, when voted into power come December 2012.
Nana Addo made this known when he and his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, toured the Ayawaso East Constituency of Greater Accra Region.
They were received by the parliamentary candidate for East Ayawaso, Alhaji Yussif 'Fofana' Ahmed, and the constituency executives.
The tour forms part of the second phase of his 'Restoring Hope Tour' of the region.
Explaining further, Nana Addo said he would introduce policies and programmes that would raise the standard of living of Ghanaians, especially those living in the Zongo communities when elected as president.
He stated, 'We want to change Ghana', adding that 'if Ghana changes, those living in the deprived communities too will change.'
Nana Addo said the NPP had the welfare of the people living in Zongo communities at heart and would never disappoint them like the National Democratic Congress did when voted into power.
The NPP flag-bearer reiterated his promise to provide free SHS and resuscitate the NHIS if voted into office.
The vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also pledged the party's commitment to ensuring that the fund, the first of its kind to be instituted for Zongos, never run out of resources in order to meet the needs of the community.
He said, 'A new day is coming and the marginalization of the Zongo communities will be over. Nana Addo and the NPP will take away the marginalization, when voted into power come December 7, 2012'.
Dr. Bawumia assured the Zongo community that as a product of the Zongos, he understood their needs better and that a victory for NPP would mean victory for them as well.
Nana Addo was accompanied on the tour by Stanley Agyiri Blankson, former mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Sheik I.C Quaye, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hajia Elizabeth Sackey, Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North constituency and Ishmael Ashitey , Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
