Nyinahin (Ash), Aug 29, GNA – The Chief of Nyinahin in the Atwima-Mponua District, Nana Amanpene Boateng Twum II, has vowed to prevent illegal mining in the area.
He said those eager to engage in gold mining operation in his stool lands should do the proper thing by obtaining permission from the Minerals Commission.
This comes in the wake of the invasion of the place by illegal miners popularly referred to as “Galamsey.”
Nana Twum at a meeting with the youth of the town said there was no way the traditional council would allow anybody to cause havoc to the environment and the water bodies through uncontrolled and illegitimate mining.
He advised people already into the activity to stop in their own interest.
The Chief called for understanding and cooperation of the people, particularly the young men and women, to protect the environment for their own benefit and posterity.
