Monday July 30, 2012; Somanya: A pressure group Klo Hengme (Eye of the Krobos) has put on hold their 14 days ultimatum made to the late President John Evans Atta Mills to coerce Ghana Cement Company Limited (GHACEM) and other public sector mining support organizations to show more responsibility to the krobo area.
This follows the demise of the Late President on the 24th of July 2012. We have been shocked and saddened by the death of the president and as a sign of respect to the contributions he has made to the development of the country, we are putting on hold our ultimatum. We also took into consideration the herculean task on the shoulders of the new president of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama to inform our decision to put on hold the ultimatum.
It will be recalled that on the 17th of July 2012, Klo Hengme has petitioned the late president over what we called the ''Suffering'' and ''Calamities'' the people of Kroboland have found themselves in as a result of the mining activities of GHACEM in the Krobo area. In a two page petition, we gave the president a two weeks ultimatum elapsing 31st July 2012 to coerce GHACEM to show more responsibility to the Krobo area, or we will consequently ''advice ourselves''. We are however stressing that, though we have put on hold the ultimatum, the petition still stands and we are therefore appealing to President Mahama to treat our petition as a matter of urgency.
Klo Hengme will also like to use this opportunity to appeal to all the Dangmes and Ghanaians in general to use the demise of our president as a fulcrum to strengthen the peace and unity in the country.
