Although the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) recognizes the right of government to create new Districts, it is no secret that the factors and the thinking which went into the creation of these new districts were devoid of proper consultative processes. Consequently, people who have for centuries lived in peace and harmony have all of a sudden become hostile to each other. One can easily cite the cases of the Great Ningo Traditional Area and Juapong in the Volta Region.
AFAG recognizes that the essence for the creation of these districts is to bring development to the local people and also ensure the participation of the local folks in our governance process. But where such an action brings about misunderstanding amongst the people, it is only fair and appropriate in the spirit of Accountable governance to make more room for further deliberations, in order to satisfy all feuding factions.
The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), is therefore serving notice to the government of President Mills to halt the decision to inaugurate the newly created districts come June 28, 2012 and further engage all factions to reach common ground.
Thank you.
