Accra, June 19, GNA – Ghana's Janet Amponsah put up a splendid performance on Tuesday to win the 200m women's gold at the ongoing Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Games currently underway in Accra.
Amponsah, who was seconds shy of the qualifying mark for the London 2012 Olympics finished the race with a personal best of 23.48secs. ahead of Nigerian Isokem Igbinesun, who made it in 2.60secs.
Goodness Thomas also of Nigeria placed third with a time of 24.45secs.
Meanwhile Amponsah, who is due to participate at the forthcoming African Athletics Championship in Benin next week, was also adjudged the best female performer in the athletics event at the ongoing second edition of the ECOWAS Games.
She also won gold in the 100m race.
