Hohoe North MP cuts short Geneva trip; calls for calm

The Member of Parliament for Hohoe North, Prince Jacob Hayibor has called on all aggrieved persons in the Hohoe conflict, which has claimed three lives and destroyed thousands worth of property, to give peace a chance.

The MP who cut short his trip from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference in Geneva has since returned to the Hohoe Municipality and told Joy FM's Volta Region correspondent Agbeko Ben Coffie that parties involved went too far with their actions.

“What has happened is just unfortunate because they (Muslim residents and indigenes) have lived together for a very longer time, and I don't know what happened that we couldn't restrain ourselves and we went overboard to create this problem. I just want to appeal to all parties to be calm.”

He said the security agencies are doing what they could to restore peace to the area, and appealed to the feuding factions to stop engaging in further destruction.

“Nobody wins” in terms of conflicts like this, Mr Hayibor advised the youth, “we all become losers”, adding that their energy and time is need to develop the country. He, therefore, appealed to them to exercise "maximum restraint".

He reiterated the need for the residents, especially the youth, to build confidence in the police service and other security agencies working in the area to bring lasting peace to the area.
