The Youth Coalition for National Interest (YoCNI) is a youth group whose ultimate aim is to Champion and Nurture the course of National Interest and Patriotism in the Ghanaian. The group seeks to create a platform for effective youth involvement and active engagement of the youth in deliberating issues of governance, community development, economic activities and issues of National Interest to the benefit of Ghana.
We commend the Government of His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta Mills for the bold decision to revoke the sale of a state bungalow at No.2 Mungo Street, Ridge property in Accra to Mr. Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey. The decision we believe is in the greater national interest of Ghana, and far from a perceived vested interest “to show Jake where power lies”.
We in no uncertain terms criticize Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey's immoral acquisition of a State Property he occupied as a Minister of State. It actually translates to a kind of “property-grabbing democracy”, a despicable act of allocating government properties held in trust for Ghanaians to oneself and cronies.
If it is for this cynical reason that Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and his property-grabbing adherents are calling for the head of the President, then all of us Ghanaians must stand up against this knavery of the highest order for them to know that Ghanaian tax payers value their hard earned properties and that their toil and sweat can never be taken for granted.
We are very much aware of the position of the law, and believe that the decision of the Cabinet of Ghana was not taken without considering all the facts, including legal, moral and ethical concerns. We also want to believe that the President and his team took the decision fully aware that posterity will not forgive them for the encouragement of such unconscionable precedence of selling state properties.
We also laud Government's commitment to ensuring that no political appointee of the Atta Mills led administration is allowed to engage in any such unacceptable transaction as the way forward for Ghana in its statement.
We hereby counsel Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey to heed the advice of his party man Mr. Kwabena Agyapong and seize the chance to do an image laundering by willingly taking his hands off the property in the sole interest of the nation to save his integrity and that of the New Patriotic Party at large.
We take this opportunity to encourage all Ghanaians and well wishers to stand strongly behind the cabinet's decision; and actively participate in the struggle to ensure that unpatriotic elements who do not seek the interest of Ghana do not succeed in their inordinate desire to loot state properties.
Join us in the Stand up for National Interest First campaign.
Once again, we commend the government of Ghana for his bold decision.
Long Live Ghana!!!!
