Bolgatanga (UE) May 30, GNA- The third Chief Fire Officers Biennial Sports Competition of the Ghana National Fire Service has ended in Bolgatanga on Wednesday in the Upper East Region.
The Upper West Regional team emerged the overall winner with five points with the host region Upper East placing second with two points in the games. The Officers competed in, Volleyball, soccer, Table Tennis, athletics, draughts and Ludu.
Brigadier General John Bosco Guyiri, Acting Chief Fire Officer said that the Service holds such annual sports to ensure fitness and cooperation amongst the personnel and to prepare the Service's sportsmen and women for the Security Services Sport Association (SESSA) competition which would be hosted next year by the Ghana Fire Service.
The Acting Regional Commander, Chief Fire Officer (ACFO), Edwin Kuntu Blankson, urged the sportsmen and women to take the competition serious in order to come up with the best teams for the SESSA Games.
He also charged the teams to exhibit unity and discipline in all the events to raise high the image of the Service.
The SESSA competition would have teams drawn from the Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions forming the Northern Zone in the championship to be hosted by the Western Region.
The competition was also used to acknowledge the enormous contribution of servicemen and women in the development of sports in the Region.
District Officer, DO III, Mrs Juliet Crabbe, Station Officers Alfred Brooke and Francis Alloy were given awards for their dedicated services.
