MPs challenge IGP to resolve death of colleague MP's son before he is buried

Members of Parliament have challenged the Inspector General of Police, Mr Paul Tawiah Quaye, to do all he can to resolve the matter of the mysterious death of the son of their colleague MP.

The death of Dr. Desmond Kabah, son of MP for Chiana/Paga at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital has brought to the fore complaints about insecurity, which his colleague junior doctors say have been ignored for several years.

Preliminary autopsy report has revealed there was no violent attack, but most MPs who spoke on the matter on the floor of Parliament yesterday say the police must use this as a test case to prove their competence.

The MPs say the death of Dr Kabah exposes the security lapses at the nation's premier hospital, arguing that if there was a better security system in place, hospital authorities should have been able to track exactly what happened.

MP for Jomoro, Samia Nkrumah was particularly troubled that the late Kabah died two days without anybody knowing or being alarmed.

She said the development was unfortunate, frightening and un-Ghanaian.

Meanwhile the junior doctors have ignored pleas to call off a strike to push for improved security at the hospital.

Speaking to Joy News after a closed-door meeting with the authorities to try and get them to return to work, their spokesperson, Dr. Titus Tibire said though the discussions were fruitful, the strike continues unabated.
