The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaj Amin Hamidu Suleimani has stated that the proper management of waste is the best guarantee for good health.
He added that waste management is a major issue the country is grappling with as a result of the attitude of the people.
Alhaj Suleimani made the statement at a ceremony to hand over 10 heavy duty waste management trucks and 38 waste containers meant for distribution to the various municipal and district assemblies in the region by Zoomlion Ghana limited.
He posited that the procurement of the trucks and the containers will contribute immensely towards waste management and improve upon sanitation in the region.
The Upper West regional minister conceded that many communicable diseases that affect the people today are the effects of poor waste disposal and sanitation.
In that regard he called on municipal and district assemblies to fashion out clear plans on waste management and sanitation in their short, medium and long term objectives and activities.
Alhaj Sulemani said the government has demonstrated a clarion commitment to improving waste management collection in the country by pushing a chunk of her budgetary provision towards that objective.
He however stated that government's efforts will be a mirage if the various Metropolitan, Municipal and district assemblies (MMDA) do not play their roles effectively by implementing and monitoring to ensure that the government commitment and dream becomes a reality.
The Upper West Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Emanuel Volsuuri said the donation is a demonstration of the company's commitment and concerted efforts to partnering the various MMDAS to ensuring clean and healthy environment.
