ZoomLion moves to cut high maintenance cost

ZoomLion Ghana Limited has embarked on a comprehensive preventive maintenance of its fleet of vehicles to ensure effective operations this year.

It would enable the company achieve the full complement of its capacity for operations for 2012.

As a result, senior mechanics, electricians, and drivers of the company, drawn from the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern and Upper East and West regions, have undergone a week's training in preventive maintenance in Kumasi.

The training programme would facilitate 85 to 90% availability of company's vehicles on the roads, and boost full operations.

The participants were taken through vehicle maintenance and engineering hygiene to keep vehicles in good working conditions at all times.

Ing. Gershon K. Atieku-Dzandu, Technical Development Manager of ZoomLion, said the   essence of the training programme was to cut down costs on recurrent expenditure on the maintenance of vehicles.

He said it would also ensure an all-year-round clean and healthy environment, and good sanitation in the company's operational areas.

According to him, the company expects a 60% cut in maintenance from less crisis repairs under the training programme.

Meanwhile, Mr. Stephen Gyekye-Darko, Regional Manager of ZoomLion, disclosed that the company signs performance contracts with its managers to ensure that the company delivers on its core mandate of ensuring a healthy environment and good sanitation.

He said under the said contract, non-performing staff could be fired.
