Does Ghana needs a new political party?

Feature Article Does Ghana needs a new political party?
DEC 21, 2011 LISTEN

On his popular Hardball political talk show on Obimanso Radio, Kwaku Ofosu, known as O4 on the Saturday 17th of December 2011 at 7:45GMT began his program by talking about an organizational poster he saw at his work place in the United States of America soliciting funds for sandals for some people living in the Northern parts of Ghana. According to the poster, some people at the North walk bear footed because they can't afford sandals, however, were calling for an urgent assistance.

Someone who doesn't know Ghana well may see this as a scam annoucement for money. But believe me it is real and not only in the north, almost all the regions in Ghana have people living under such critical conditions. I have been to almost all the regions in Ghana and I have seen people of more bizarre living conditions than this. Why Ghana, then called Gold Coast? Why Ghana, the land the white man envied to live on?

It is very obvious that the core principles of governance since the time of the visionary Kwame Nkrumah has been looked down until this day. And not only that, this kind of track seems systematic; systematic irresponsibility, systematic misplaced priorities, systematic corruption, systematic empty coffers, systematic loan acquisition, systematic greed, et cetera. It just goes around like "Mary-goes-around" and comes around. In fact Ghana can boast of a lot of achievements but she can also boast of a lot of massive mess which overtakes her pace in development.

Nkrumah's vision for Ghana was to industralized the country for Ghanaians to manage and construct their own nation without reliance on foreign aid. Even though Nkrumah got stuck along the way, it was expected not to end there. His successors were to look further by concentrating on where he left. Today, it is very obvious that our leaders don't really care much about the improvement of human standards of living. They talk of national development and to them is buying of aircrafts, fighting jets, building museums, etc. things that only favor a kind of minority group neglecting to tackle basic amenities.

For me right now, I think we need another party with both Nkruamhism and Dan Lartey's domestication as their focus with the aim of BEGINNING AGAIN. For this, I do expect the following:

1. Contruction and maintenance of roads for easy transportation of goods and service.
2. Improvement and extension in quality health services to decrease mortality rate.
3. Good education based on sound cultural ethics and innovation. Technology to be visible at KNUST.
4. Districts cities improvement and development to ease congestion in the major cities.
5. Management and manufacturing of raw materials for Ghana to be exporters of finished products to ease cost in goods and services.
6. Good market systems to make commerce attractive.
7. Control of government funds by introducing electronic commerce to minimize corruption and stealing of government funds.
8. Decentralization of major offices like the passport offices to make acquisition of documents less tensive.
9. Improvement in security for the safeguard of citizens and the nation at large.
10. Consolidation of national funds to make Ghana debts free.

All these and many major ones can be achieved because someone has passed through them already. Ghanaians don't actually deserve what they are receiving now. It can be more better. A land that has gold, diamond, bouxite, oil, timbers, food, in commercial quantity do not actually deserve people walking on bare foots. Poverty must have some elevated level not totally zero.

As at now, I don't trust the policies of both the NDC and NPP or whatever party since their policies are not down-to-earth. It doesn't uplift the less fortunate. Their policies go with the rich so there is always that HUGE gap between the poor and rich.

Please let us change our menatality and look down on basic issues to uplift Ghana. We can make it, there must be a rebirth of mentality. This is not the time for cocaines to turn into caustic soda or people using deceitful and atrocities to scam the nation's money. Wake up everyone and let's move to a more radical and selfless governance.

God bless our homeland Ghana, and make us great and strong. Bold to defend it forever and ever!
