The Adventist Girls Senior High School (SHS) at Ntonso in the Kwabre East District in the Ashanti Region has received relief items valued at GH¢1,000.00 to support the rehabilitation of a dormitory which was burnt into ashes in October this year.
An amount of GH¢200.00 was also presented to the dormitory mistress to replenish accessories lost as a result of the accident.
Most of the items presented were provided by the Board Chairman of the Social Security and Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr Kwame Peprah and Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Board Chairman, Mr Antwi Gyamfi, all natives of Ntonso; while the First Lady, Dr (Mrs) Naadu Mills, provided the school with an electric cooker.
Some of the items were also provided by the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council and the Kwabre East District Assembly.
The items included a fridge, a television set, a standing fan, a gas cooker, a gas cylinder, an iron, sound systems and materials which will be used to sew school uniforms for the students who lost theirs in the fire outbreak.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, who led the team to make the presentation, said the presentation of the relief items was an indication of the government’s commitment to the needs of the people.
He indicated that the Regional Coordinating Council and the Kwabre East District Assembly, through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), had already contributed immensely to the rehabilitation of the dormitory and other projects in the school. He, therefore, advised the school authoritiess to do their best to ensure a judicious use of the money and other items in their possession.
He announced that with funding from the GETFund, the administration block of the school had been awarded on contract.
The Head Mistress of the School, Madam Paulina Agyekum, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the regional coordinating council, the district assembly and all those who had contributed to the school.
She said the school was still looking forward to developing the school to the highest level.
She announced that the Central Ghana conference (CGC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kumasi had donated GH¢20,000.00 towards the rehabilitation of the dormitory and the Ghana Union Conference (GUC) of the SDA had also donated GH¢10,000 to the school.
