The 50-kilometre Kpando-Worawora-Dambai asphalt road project is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed in 18 months. The project, which is estimated to cost $22 million, is being constructed by the Bilfinger Company. It is being funded by the Government of Ghana and the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi, Mr. Francis Y. Osei-Sarfo, stated during a familiarization visit to some towns in the constituency that the country is losing millions of cedis as a result of the inability of people in the area to transport cash crops like cocoa and yams, cassava and corn to the marketing centre.
Mr. Osei-Sarfo noted that towns like Tokuroano, Pai-Kantanka and Asukawkaw in the Krachi District of the Volta Region have great potential of producing more cash crops and other foodstuffs but the lack of good access roads is hampering the efforts of the people. He, therefore, called on the contractors to do everything possible to finish the project on time so as to enhance the socio-economic development of the communities in the area.
At Pai-Kantanka, the MP called on the people to take the HIV/AIDS education seriously. Since the disease is claiming more lives as a result of lack of behavioural change by Ghanaians. Mr. Osei-Sarfo said a total of ¢225 million has been given to the Krachi District Assembly to be disbursed to community-based organizations (CBOs) to combat the HIV/AIDS disease. He advised the people to form CBOs for effective and efficient campaign and sensitization on the pandemic.
Nana Ofosu Yiadom, Chief of Pai-Kantanka, on his part, said with the rainy season about to set in the contractor of the project should expedite work on the project to enhance transportation in the area. He appealed to the government to do all it can to finish other development projects earmarked for the area.
