The programme aims at enlightening and educating commercial drivers on insurance and the new Draft Road Traffic Regulations to be passed by Parliament.
It further aims at helping reduce road accidents, and as well, transform the transport industry in the country. The programme, which was on the theme 'Road Traffic Regulations – Essential for Safety on Our Roads', is an innovation that culminated out of the Vanguard Taxi Project. Vanguard says before the advent of the project, taxi drivers were viewed as the most offensive road users in the country.
It was for this reason that the Vanguard Training of trainers programme was instituted to groom taxi drivers to change the perception of the profession. This, the insurance company, has been doing over the years to shape the taxi driving profession, through the annual training of trainers programme.
In this year's programme, Vanguard is educating and creating awareness on the new draft road bill to be passed into law.
Mr. Mathew Hayford, a resource person at the programme, explained the highlights and importance of the new road draft bill to commercial drivers.
He explained that the new bill was more emphatic on vehicle registration, licensing, and construction among others, and further said the new draft would demand drivers to go for refresher courses once a year.
Failure to do this, a driver would not be in a position to renew his driving license. Commercial drivers at the programme, who were excited, asked that copies of the new draft bill be made available to them.
Another resource person, Nana Kyei from Vanguard, also took the drivers through the various insurance policies.
