Original work specially commissioned for the ROM to be featured in the Museum's African collection
(Toronto, Ontario - September 29, 2010) The Institute for Contemporary Culture (ICC) at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) announces the acquisition
Straying Continents, an original new work by world renowned Ghanaian visual artist El Anatsui created specially for the Museum's permanent collection.
This stunning 12 metre by 5 metre wall sculpture will be on display in the Shreyas and Mina Ajmera Gallery of Africa, the Americas and Asia Pacific on Level 3 of the
Michael Lee Chin Crystal.
“This original work by El Anatsui is an iconic addition to the ROM's collections, one that powerfully conveys Africa in a poetic and contemporary way,” said Janet Carding,
ROM Director and CEO. “Featured within our World Culture galleries, this massive new wall sculpture will encourage our visitors to discover and explore the continuing creativity of African art.”
