Ve-Koloenu urges stakeholders to assist school with infrastructure

Ve-Koloenu (V/R), Sept 1, GNA - Mr Al-Sahil Osman Alhassan, headmaster of the Ve-Koloenu Senior High School, has appealed to major actors in the education enterprise, including the Ghana Education Trust Fund, to assist in upgrading the infrastructure of the school.

He said after 40 years the school is still struggling with the acquisition of basic infrastructure.

Mr Alhassan, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the situation was worrisome but commended the Ve Community for coping with the occasion.

He said classroom structures were woefully inadequate for the 238 students.

Mr Alhassan said only 38 girls were housed in the school hostel, built by the Peace Corps, while 40 boys are accommodated in the house of Togbuiga Tendeku VII.

There has never been accommodation for teachers.
He indicated that their library could seat only 20 students while there is only one science laboratory. It lacks requisite equipment and tools.

The headmaster, however, said 25 acres out of the 138 acres land area was under cultivation with oil palm, maize, cassava and cowpea, and bee-farming, to supplement the feeding needs of students.

Mr Alhassan, therefore, appealed to corporate institutions, private and public organisations, to go to the aid of the school.

He said the provision of a two-storey dormitory for girls, financial support to complete the Lodigiani Boys' Hostel, a school bus and a pick-up for the management and a one-unit four classroom block would be ideal help a great deal.

Mr Alhassan said his administration has targeted a 1,000 student population in the next three years and was optimistic that the provision of new facilities would attract more students.

He commended the chiefs and people of Ve, the school's management committee and the parent-teacher association for their immense contribution to the success of the school.
