The National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) is pushing for an increase in its share of the talk time tax to settle its growing debts to the Agricultural Development Bank.
The NYEP currently owes the ADB about 23 million cedis. Officials of the program say its sustainability is threatened by the lack of funds to settle the debts and pay beneficiaries.
They are pushing for the levy to be increased from 20 to 60 percent.
Ibrahim Mutala Head of Communications at the NYEP told Joy News:
"We were spending a little over 4.5 billion every month in paying allowances of beneficiaries engaged.
"And fifty per cent of the talk time tax alone was only 12 million Ghana. So if the previous government was truthful to the people of this country they should have given at least 50 per cent of the programme the policy will not be in debt like it is today," Mutala Inrahim said.
