Sekondi, June 28, GNA - The Western Region branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) is to organize a demonstration on July 08 in protest at the government's refusal to open up negotiations with the association over salary increases.
Mr. Kwamena Otu-Odoom, the Regional Secretary of the Association, told the GNA in an interview on Sunday that similar demonstrations would be organized in all municipalities and districts in the region.
He said the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) and the Fair Wages Commission on 10 per cent salary increase was not binding on the CLOGSAG that is not an affiliate of the TUC or any other labour organization.
Mr. Otu-Odoom said the CLOGSAG is a separate organization operating under the labour laws of the country and had the right to negotiate with the government on the condition of service of its members.
He said the association was not involved in the negotiations and was only informed of the salary increase through a letter from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
