Man appears in court for causing to abortion
February 09, 2010
Asamankese, Feb. 9, GNA - An unemployed man, Stephen Boadi, charged with intentionally and unlawfully causing abortion to his 16-year-old student lover has been granted 2,000 Ghana cedis bail with a surety by the Asamankese Circuit court.
He will re-appear in court on March 1.
Boadi was first arraigned before the Kade District Magistrate's court and remanded in prison custody and since the case was above the jurisdiction of a magistrate's court, the case was transferred to the Asamankese Circuit court.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina said on January 13, the mother of Dorcas Annobil, 16, noticed that her daughter was sick.
She found that she was bleeding from her sex organ so she took her to the Kade Government Hospital.
At the hospital, the girl said she was pregnant and Boadi, who was responsible, gave her four tablets of a drug to swallow which she did to have the pregnancy terminated.
The Judge, Mr Emmanuel Siameh wondered why the prosecution left the girl "off the hook" instead of being charged with the accused.
