Food vendors advised to undertake regular medical screening
February 09, 2010
Nkawkaw, Feb. 9, GNA - A Public Health physician, Dr Andrews Ayim, has appealed to food vendors to undertake regular medical screening to avoid transmission of contagious diseases to people who patronize their food.
He said this when he addressed a large number of food vendors in the Kwahu West Municipality at Nkawkaw.
Dr Ayim said some food vendors do not know they had acquired some diseases and could only be detected through medical screening and check-ups.
He said a non-governmental organization known as Syband Health Promotion would soon undertake medical screening for all food vendors in the municipality and give them free treatment for diseases like typhoid fever, diabetes, high blood pleasure, tuberculosis (TB) and also give de-wormers.
Dr Ayim said the objective of the exercise was to improve the health consciousness of food vendors and to ensure good environmental hygiene at their work places.
Mrs Sybil Boison, an environmental health technologist, said food vendors who would be examined would be given a health certificate and a registration card from the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly to enable them to operate in the Municipality.
She said diseases that could not be treated would be referred to the hospital for treatment and advised all food vendors in the area to take advantage of the exercise to know their health status.
