Foreign exhibitors show interest in 2009 Grand Sales in Kumasi

Over 100 thousand people are expected to patronize the 9th edition of the Grand Sales event in Kumasi.

The annual bazaar, being organized by the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, has opened at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in the Ashanti regional capital.

Businesses in the Northern Sector of the country would take advantage of the event to make their products and services available to the public at reduced prices.

Organizers say this year's event is an improvement on the last edition, with the inclusion of a mobile pavilion.

Marketing Manager of the Trade Fair Company, Seth Asamoah, says about 150 businesses, including foreign exhibitors are participating in the 19-day fair. “It was intended to be a national affair, but fortunately it has assumed an international dimension because of the success of it. We have participants from Benin, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and even Egyptians have registered to participate because of the success they've seen in this”, Mr. Asamoah said.

Mr. Asamoah says the fair should help business operators to increase sales ahead of Christmas and re-stock their shelves.

He however says this will depend on the ability of exhibitors to merchandise their products to attract buyers. “We're educating the general public that prices here are expected to be lower than usual and the exhibitors should also understand the need not to hike their prices to attract higher patronage”, Mr. Asamoah noted.

The Trade Fair Company has instituted measures to prevent the display and sales of expired and shoddy products.
