Upper East Police Commander commends NGO

Bolgatanga, Dec. 2, GNA - The Upper East Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bright Oduro, has commended Action Aid Ghana (AAG), a non-governmental organization, for supporting the police to in combat crime in the region.

He said this when AAG presented some items including a computer, a stabilizer, four arm chairs, 10 wooden benches and a 24-inch television to the Zebilla office of Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Service.

Mr Oduro said AAG had been supporting the Police Service in the Region and that in 2005 it renovated the DOVVU building that was leaking and donated a set of furniture to the office.

He said apart from office logistics and other amenities, the NGO had also supported the service to financially to train some staff of DOVVU in the Region on how to handle domestic violence issues and this had helped to solve some of the numerous domestic violence cases in the Region.

Mr Oduro said the donations showed that crime fighting and for that matter domestic violence cases could be handled through joint and concerted efforts of all partners.

He appealed to other stakeholders to emulate the example of AAG by also contributing to support the Police Service to effectively combat crime.

Mr Oduro said the Gender and Development Programme of the Anglican Diocesan and Development Organization (ADDRO) had also presented a table-top refrigerator to DOVVSU
