Cape Coast Polytechnic holds Congregation

The President John Evans Atta Mills, has urged graduate students to resolve to serve the nation, whenever duty calls.  To this end, they must accept postings to deprived communities to show appreciation to the people who in diverse ways have patriotically produced the nation's wealth for their training and education.

President Mills, said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Central Regional Minister, Ama Beniwa Doe, at the 6th Congregation of the Cape Coast Polytechnic.

President Mills said, the training they have acquired should not only provide the basis for their livelihoods but also stimulate them to become agents of change.  He said the knowledge they have acquired has equipped them with the right attitude to tackle the growing state of indiscipline in the Society.  President Mills encouraged them to fight against all forms of social injustice and also educate others about the need to be law abiding.

President Mills noted that, the graduants are coming out at the time, the world faces global credit crunch which has adversely affected the economies of many countries.  He however said government has taken pragmatic steps to stabilize the economy to reverse the trend to provide among other things, jobs for the youth.

He therefore urged technical and tertiary institutions to focus on training modules that will equip students with the requisite skills to meet the employment opportunities globally.

The rector of the Cape Coast Polytechnic, Professor Robert Kwame Nkum, note that, there have been a paradyme shift in the Polytechnic education where there is maximum emphasizes on the individual student's competences rather than the general theoretical module of training.

He was hopeful that what the students have achieved over the years will propel them to meet the challenges ahead.  Professor Nkum appealed to government to solve staff accommodation problems and to resolve encroachment on the institution's land to enable them develop the school's infrastructure.

In all, a total of one thousand eleven hundred and seventy-seven students in various academic disciplines which consists of two batches of graduates for 2007 and 2008 were awarded with HND and Diploma Certificates.
