  Thu, 29 Oct 2009

Accra, Oct. 29, GNA - An Accra Regional Tribunal on Friday ordered the destruction of

399 parcels of cocaine intercepted by the police at Nsawam in the Eastern Region, in May 2008.

The tribunal presided over by Mr Justice Kojo Owusu, ordered that the destruction should be

supervised by officials of the Judicial Service, Narcotic Control Board, Ghana Standards Board

and Environmental Protection Agency.
The order was a request by Mr Asiamah Sarpong, a State Attorney who asked that the

exhibits should be destroyed after being tendered in evidence by Police Inspector Emmanuel

Yaw Ansong of the Police Headquarters in Accra.
The prosecution's case was that the accused persons, Kwame Anane, Eugene Amewu and

Valentine Kojo Debui, were arrested by security personnel when they allegedly smuggled 399

parcels of cocaine into the country from Conakry, Guinea.

They pleaded not guilty and remanded into prison custody to re-appear on January 7, 2010.
