Apowa (W/R), Oct.28, GNA - The Western Regional Health Directorate has taken delivery of over 400 Nanfang motorbikes for outreach programmes in all the 17 districts in the region, Mr Edwin Kunbatazie, Regional Health Motorbike Training Coordinator, said on Tuesday.
He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at a five-day motorbike riding training programme for 37 health providers including 21 females from Bibiani, Sefwi Wiawso and the Wassa Amenfi East Districts at Apowa, near Takoradi.
Mr Kunbatazie said so far, 255 motorbikes have been distributed and the remaining would be distributed after health providers in all the districts have undergone training on how to ride and maintain the motorbikes.
He said so far, a total of 129 health providers including 54 females from 12 districts in the region, have undergone similar training programmes to equip them with motor riding skills, to ensure effective service delivery.
Mr Kunbatazie who is heading a five-member training team said the motorbikes would ensure that planned outreach programmes are carried out successfully and coverage are improved.
He said the motorbikes would also make health delivery accessible and affordable and they would be particularly helpful in outreach programmes on immunization, child health, supervision of traditional birth attendants, disease surveillance and tuberculosis.
