Be inspired by ideals of Nkrumah

Ho, Sept. 26, GNA - Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, on Saturday asked Ghanaians to be inspired by the ideals of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana and unite for the acceleration of the country's development.

He noted that Dr. Nkrumah dedicated his life to the unity of the country and the West African sub-region and worked towards building a nation in which no citizen was denied opportunities offered by the State.

Togbe Afede said this when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Asogli Traditional Area in Ho that was on the theme: “Unity for Development”.

He said that Dr. Nkrumah realized the importance of unity to the realization of the country's development aspirations and worked towards it and it remained the foundation that had enabled the country to survive all these years.

Togbe Afede said the nation's founding fathers, through hard work and dedication, planted seeds of unity, which the current generation needed.

He encouraged the youth to oppose anything that threatened the peace of the nation such as tribalism, negative politics, chieftaincy and land disputes.

Togbe Afede observed that disunity and conflicts often resulted from struggle over limited resources, political differences, tribal, chieftaincy and land disputes.

He called for equitable distribution of development projects, resources and opportunities for people to harness their potentials to sustain peace and unity.

President John Evans Attah Mills in a speech read on his behalf, said the theme of the celebration of the festival was appropriate and urged people of traditional areas under the Asogli State to do away with differences and forge ahead as a united people with a common destiny.

He also appealed to all Ghanaians to unite solidly behind the government to ensure the building of a “better Ghana”.

President Mills said government would promote national unity through equitable distribution of the national cake.

He said government was aware of the “justifiably high expectations” of Ghanaians and government would satisfy the expectations and fulfil its campaign promises “within the shortest possible time”.

President Mills urged the youth in the country to take advantage of government's interventions, to develop their talents and desist from criminal acts such as cyber fraud.

The colourful festival was graced by dignitaries and tourists from within and outside the country including some ambassadors.

There were fraternal messages from some well wishers including Togbe Agorkorli V, Paramount Chief of Notsie, Togo, the ancestral home of the Ewes.

The festival also witnessed the launch of “Ho Tourist and Business Guide”, to help foreign have knowledge on Ho.
