ZAIN GHANA and Ericsson have jointly donated two toll free numbers, 30 sim cards and 10 fixed wireless terminals, to health centres and emergency services in the UN Millennium Villages Project (MVP) Cluster of communities in the Amansie West District.
While Zain Ghana donated the toll free number and closed user group sim cards to help the community members communicate with health and emergency services staff free of charge, Ericsson donated 10 fixed wireless terminals for use by health and learning centres in the MVP cluster, and schools that were involved in the one Laptop per child scheme at Bonsaaso.
Mr. Philip Sowah, Country Manager for Zain Ghana, disclosed that 47 Sony Ericsson handsets had been donated to health centres, and that there were plans to donate a further 22 in a few weeks.
He said the donation to the Millennium Village Project Communication, which is in the areas of education, healthcare, economics, would go a long way to enhance effectively the performance of the health workers.
Mr. Jonathan Khan, Key Account Manager of Ericsson, indicated that the donation formed part of a Zain-Ericsson partnership to bring mobile technology to the MVP.
Based on the conviction that technology can be an effective transformational tool for the development of Africa, Mr. Khan said the collaboration was to advance Ghana's achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of eradicating the poverty of the 30,000 residents by 2015.
He gave the assurance that Zain and Ericsson, in partnership with the MVP, would provide communication technologies to help fight poverty.
