The opposition New Patriotic Party has denied allegations it is arming its supporters to cause trouble during the bye-election in Chereponi.
National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary Johnson Aseidu-Nketia told journalists in the constituency he had reports that the NPP was supplying huge quantities of arms and ammunitions to its supporters.
He asked the police to arrest an opposition supporter he claims had confessed to stockpiling the arms.
But NPP General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, tells Joy News the NDC is peddling falsehood.
“The NDC had consistently created stories and fabrication about the NPP going to rig an election, the NDC going to visit mayhem and violence… It turned out that the NDC did exactly what they themselves were accusing the NPP of going to do,” Nana Ntow said, citing reports of violence visited on NPP supporters at Agbogbloshie, Akwatia and some parts of the Volta Region.
The bye-election comes off on September 29 this year and follows the deaths of the late Doris Seidu, who passed away in August.
