Four hundred and 54 children have been admitted into kindergarten and primary one in three schools in Sissala East District of the Upper West Region. This came to light when the Regional Minister, Mohmud Khalid, visited the schools as part of my first day at school programme. The schools are Gwosi, Nabulo and Challu.
At Gwosi 80 children were admitted into kindergarten and primary one, at Nabulo 134 children and at Challu 240.
The Regional Minister who was accompanied by officials including the new Regional Director of Education, Fabian Belieb and the DCE Alijata Sulamana said my first day at school is a special day in the life of the children because it is a beginning of a journey that will determine their future.
He asked the teachers to handle the children in such a way that they will feel better at school than at home to help develop into responsible individuals.
