From all indications, the visit of US President Barack Obama to Ghana has created an atmosphere of excitement, with the people of Cape Coast in particular enjoying a party atmosphere even after the visit.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE on Monday, some Cape Coasters expressed their happiness about the fact that Mr Obama and his family visited the ancient town since former US Presidents who visited the country did not go outside Accra.
Some of the people described Mr Obama's visit as a good omen for the people in the area, Ghanaians and Africans in general.
As at the time of filing this report, some residents were still seen in T-shirts bearing the image of President Obama and President Mills.
“Today, the whole world can attest to the fact that there is hope for Black people across the world; we are proud to see how far the world has come, with a man returning to his African roots as the first Black President of the most powerful country in the world,” Mr Joseph Anokye, a worker at the Center for National Culture (CNC) remarked, adding that Obama's life story illustrates that success can be achieved regardless of colour.
During a tour through town, DAILY GUIDE saw people going about their normal duties as Zoomlion workers busily cleaned the metropolis and desilted gutters.
Kofi Quansah, a teacher in Cape Coast, expressed disappointment at not setting eyes on President Obama and his family during their historic visit to the town due to the tight security.
“Obama could have used some few minutes to address us since some of us were ready for his inspiring speech,” he said.
