Tamale, June 15, GNA – Alhaji Abdulai Haruna Friday,
Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive last weekend inaugurated a
24-Member Peace Advisory Council (Blichinsi) to help maintain
peace and order in Tamale Metropolis and its environs.
It is expected to offer advice and report on early warning
signals to help avert constant clashes in the metropolis to ensure
lasting peace in Tamale.
Seven traditional rulers within the metropolis who pledged to
help in the process are expected to appoint a representative to
serve on the Council.
They are the Nyohini-Lana, Gurugu-Lana, Kanvilli-Lana,
Vittin-Naa, Nyeshie-Naa, Chog-Naa and Kalpohin-Naa.
Alhaji Friday called for collective efforts by all stakeholders
towards a face-lift in Tamale.
He said the peace initiative could only be achieved when
residents saw themselves as one people with a common interest
prepared to forgive each other and appealed to all and sundry to
help improve the image of Tamale.
Alhaji Friday pointed out that the road to achieve peace was
daunting, long and rough and was optimistic that the wisdom,
maturity and ability of the people involved would ensure that
lasting measures were instituted for peace in Tamale.
He explained that the Council would operate in all electoral
areas in the metropolis and report on any suspicious character
whose acts was likely to breach the peace and quick action taken
to avert any possible conflict.
Alhaji Friday appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups
and political party activists to co-operate with the Metropolitan
Security Committee and the Council.
