Christian Messenger takes new look

Accra, June 2, GNA – The aim of establishing the Christian Messenger Newspaper 121 years ago in Gold Coast (Ghana) was as relevant as today since the newspaper, funded by the Basel Mission under the United Trading Company (UTC) was to convert readers to Christianity, provide them with news and entertainment while keeping a finger on the political development of Gold Coast.

Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery and also Chairman of the Editorial Board of the newspaper, speaking at the re-launch of the Christian Messenger said that relevance must be reinvigorated to reflect the realities of the modern times whiles maintaining its original aim.

He said in doing that, it must be recognised that, “the Christian Messenger has outlived all the difficulties and continues to tell readers what is important and why.”

Rev Martey said; “Today the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is re-launching the Christian Messenger in an effort to capture a greater share of the market.”

He said; “To be able to achieve this we have re-designed the paper, giving it a new feature and an increase focus on social-economic and political issues.

“Everyone wants a change to reflect the trends in contemporary global society.”

Rev Martey said the Church expected the paper to be “strikingly different”.
