THE BEST TO LEAD THE NPP IN 2012

Feature Article THE BEST TO LEAD THE NPP IN 2012
MAY 8, 2009 LISTEN

I am certainly sure that there are many NPP members and sympathizers who are beginning to worry about the seemingly war of words that are emerging from Messrs Akufo Addo and Alan Kyerematen's supporters.

I have tried deeply to comprehend the rationale behind the media war between the supporters of these respected two gentlemen-Nana and Alan- in the NPP without any answers.

It is indeed a painful situation that there seems not to be an end to the war of words between supporters of these men.I am more greatly baffled that when we were growing up, we were made to believe that education enlightens an individual to perfectly conforms to the norms or acceptable behaviour in society, little did I know that, some individuals after the best of education will succumbed to ancient thinking and kindergarten behaviour..Nana Akufo Addo returns to Ghana from his USA and European trip with a rousing welcome and so what?Mr.Kufour supports/supported Mr.Alan Kyerematen and so what?

It is really difficult that human being that has been created in the image of God will failed to demonstrate basic civil ethics and common sense.

At times one hears an NPP supporter making derogatory comments against Nana Addo or Mr..Alan Kyerematen and you are tempted to ask, why did our parents send us to school?

At a crucial time when the NPP needs peace in their ranks to enable the party rehabilitate all the wrongs that triggered the party's defect in the last December elections, some have taken delight in always raising unnecessary tensions between Nana Akufo Addo and Mr.Alan Kyerematen.I refused to believe that these gentlemen are personally championing such war of words secretly.

Last year, there were accusation against Mr. Alan Kyerematen that he was being supported by Mr.Kufour and unfortunately people you thought should have justified the reason why their parents and society spent resources on them to be educated, made a mess of the situation.

Today,Nana Akufo Addo has been accused of surrounding himself with the Akim Mafia and so what? I can not understand the argument! .Are you in the NPP to serve your country or an individual? Granted that it is true that Nana Akufo Addo has indeed surrounds himself with Akim people and the NPP emerges victories in an election and you are appointed a Minister of Education, do you need to be closed only to Nana Addo that will enable you to brainstorm on how to transform the lives of Ghanaians?Or these Accusers want to tell me that because of the three or four Akim guys closed to Nana Akufo Addo, they have blocked or crippled your creativity and innovative capability that will enable you contribute for the survival of the NPP? I can't get that argument..Had Mr.Alan Kyerematen won the flag bearer last year, I am sure the same accusation could have been levelled against him. I am sorry, but truly we need a bloom to sweep the mentality of some Ghanaians.

I have been wondering whether it is only being a President of Ghana that one can serve his Nation better. It is commonsensical that ,you can equally be a Minister and cause total transformation in the lives of the suffering masses. That is what we should be fighting about and not this childish argument of who is the leader and who is not.

The time is ripe for common sense to prevail amongst the supporters of Nana Akufo Addo and Mr.Alan Kyerematen.Concerned members of the NPP should send an unequivocal message to supporters of Nana and Alan that their media war is a disgrace to them and the party. Why can't we settle our differences amongst ourselves indoors. This is the time for supporters of Nana and Alan to grow up.

Sadly in the midst of this seemingly 'civil war' between the supporters of Nana and Alan has the suggestion emerged that there is the need for a neutral person to lead the NPP in 2012.For me, that suggestion is absurd and should never be countenanced by any leading member of the party. It is either Nana or Alan, period! Should the party leadership decides to go for congress, I don't think it will be logical for more than four names to emerge-messrs Nana Akufo Addo,Alan Kyerematen,Issac Osei and Dan Botwe are at the moment 'fit for flag bearship'.You don't need a constitutional amendment to prescribe a number. It is common sense.

Again, had the spirit of common sense and humility prevailed, there could have been a mutual agreement for either Nana or Alan to lead the party thereby resurrecting the onslaught against the NDC government.Too much time has been wasted, too much noise have been made, much resources wasted and so many NPP supporters are facing psychological torture by the seemingly “ civil war” between supporters of Nana and Alan.

Those supporters who think the media is the arena to box down Nana or Alan, they are wasting opportunity given to them by God to occupy this earth.Let decency prevail.
