A magistrate's court at Suhun on Tuesday sentenced, Ismel Tamatey, a 26-year-old cocoa purchasing clerk, to six months' imprisonment with hard labour for stealing one-and-half bags of dried cocoa beans costing GHC 153.
Detective Chief Inspector G. K. Okorey told the court that the complainant, a cocoa farmer at Aponoapono, near Suhum, and Tamatey lived at Aponoapono.
The Prosecutor said that on April 18, 2007, the complainant sold that quantity of dried cocoa beans to Tamatey.
Chief Insp. Okorey said after collecting the money from the district purchasing officer for the payment of the cocoa purchased, Tamatey went into hiding but he was later arrested.
