Killers grabbed

From left: Edward Atta, Daniel Dumako and Daniel Domfeh Three persons have been grabbed by the Ashanti Mampong Police in connection with the gruesome murder of Bashiru Mohammed, the personal driver of Kofi Nyanteh Akuffo, a Circuit Court Judge at Nsuta. 

The trio, who were nabbed at separate locations in the country, are Daniel Domfeh, 28, Daniel Dumako, 25 and Edward Atta aka Kobi, 25.

The deceased who was also the driver of a Hyundai Pony taxi registered AS 2725-09 was last seen on Sunday, March 29, 2009 when he was hired by two persons to convey them from Mampong to Boanim.

Both hands and legs of the 23-year-old deceased had been tied behind him with a yellow nylon rope and his body tied to a tree in a bush between Mpirem and Boanim when he was found by a police team the following day.

The face of Mohammed was as well cello-taped all over by his killers who also made away with his Hyundai Pony taxi.

The mortal remains of Mohammed who was a Muslim had since been interred by his family members.

The three suspects, in the presence of a section of the media and police officers on Monday, confessed to being the perpetrators of the heinous crime which occurred about a week ago.

The suspects freely demonstrated to the gathering how they forcibly dragged the innocent and hapless driver to the bush and painfully took away his life.

Briefing the media later on, the Mampong Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro-Kwarteng said the police in Kumasi arrested two persons, namely Daniel Domfeh and Kwadwo Adom, who were in possession of the deceased person's taxi at the Suame Magazine.

He explained that Domfeh actually drove the Hyundai Pony taxi to Adom to spray and change it from its original colours, ostensibly to prevent people from recognizing it.

The Mampong Divisional Police Commander noted that on the night of Saturday April 4, 2009, Domfeh led a police team to arrest Daniel Dumako at Tikrom near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

Dumako, he said, in turn led the police to arrest Edward Atta alias Kobi who was relaxing with his girlfriend at Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region in the early hours of Sunday April 5, 2009.

Chief Superintendent Oduro-Kwarteng continued that the three suspects confessed to committing the grievous crime when police interrogated them.

He said Dumako even appealed to the police to take away his life because he has sinned and does not deserve to live.  

Police investigations, the Mampong Divisional Commander noted, have revealed that the suspects had earlier succeeded in robbing someone of his taxi “and this was their second attempt”.

He warned criminals operating in Mampong and its immediate environs to quickly “re-locate elsewhere because the Mampong Police cannot co-habit with them. We shall flush them out; this is just the beginning”.

Chief Superintendent Oduro-Kwarteng admonished commercial drivers and the general public to be circumspect whenever they come into contact with robbers, urging them also not to lynch suspects when they are arrested.

“If the suspect had been lynched at the Kumasi Magazine, it would have been very difficult to apprehend the others,” he remarked.
