An 11-member volunteer group from the United Kingdom has arrived at Kasapin in the Asunafo North Municipality to assist the community to construct an ultra modern community centre.
The centre will contain a library, post office, banking hall, communication centre and stores.
The group will work under a United Kingdom funded programme dubbed, 'Platform II,” which is aimed at assisting rural communities in infrastructural development such as school buildings, hospitals, toilets, libraries and provision of social services.
At a durbar at Kasapin, Opunawisie Wiredu Brempong, Odikro, thanked the volunteers for their services and promised them a healthy co-existence.
He said the construction of the community centre would go a long way to enhance economic activities in the area.
Ms. Silvia Serwaa Akoto, project supervisor and leader of the group, said Kasapin was chosen because the community had materials needed for the construction of the centre.
She stated that the services to be provided by the volunteers were basically the provision of unskilled labour.
Ms Amanda Summer Scales, Senior Coordinator for Platform II, said the volunteers were also helping the people at Achiase in Ashanti region to construct a 24 seater toilet and a modern library complex.
She called on the community to rekindle their communal labour spirit for the speedy completion of work on the community centre.
