Togbega Gabusu VI, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area on Thursday said the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) would remain as one of the anchored legacies of government, as it is human-centred and affordable.

He said the NHIS would forever linger on as one of the praise-singing policies of government, "whether one likes it or not".

Togbega Gabusu said this at the second Annual General Meeting of the Hohoe Municipal Health Insurance Scheme (HMHIS) at Hohoe.

He said health issues transcended political boundaries and it would be suicidal to sacrifice health issues on the altar of partisan politics, adding that the novelty in the scheme had been crystallized by the high patronage being recorded throughout the country.

Togbega Gabusu urged boards of governors and management of the scheme nationwide to work within the confines of the legislation establishing it, and avoid conflict of interest situations.

He therefore asked boards of governors and commissions to cultivate the culture of disseminating information to members of their constituencies and institutions they represented.

Togbega Gabusu, also President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, urged spouses to guard against abusing the free medical policy for pregnant women as its consequences could be debilitating.

He said Ghana is faced with population explosion, which was already affecting planning and projections, and an unwarranted abuse of the situation could have a rippling effect on resources and exert pressure on facilities.

He inquired what had happened to the family planning policies, and particularly asked spouses to exercise restraint. GNA
