When television boxing reality show, The Last Warrior, hits night three this evening George 'Red Tiger' Ashie's brilliant start will be put to a critical test when he faces the tough Odarlai 'Eagle Eye' Lamptey at the Radio Gold forecourt in Accra.
Ashie, an Attoh Quarshie Gym product is the only boxer to have recorded a knockout so far. On Day One when Ashie only needed a minute and 23 seconds to demolish Charles Tetteh. Lamptey on the other hand started on a bright note only that he won by a unanimous decision.
Though some have started making predictions favouring Ashie to succeed Joshua Okine, the first winner of the show, it could just be that a surprise can pop up. Lamptey is durable and can cause an upset if he is able to neutralize Ashie's heavy jab. But the latter is yet to taste defeat on Ghanaian soil and this remains the challenge for Lamptey.
As Charles 'Innocent' Tetteh and Martin Ahiadekey match each other pound for pound in the second bout, they will have common motives — make up for jerky starts.
Tetteh suffered the only knockout so far against George 'Red Tiger' Ashie on the first night while Ahiadekey bowed to hard-hitting Albert Mensah of the Will Power Gym.
Ahiadekey comes into this fight relying on his durability which saw him through his first fight. Tetteh on the other hand has a big psychological battle to fight since many will name him the underdog due to his loss to Ashie.
Much would be expected of Will Power's Oko 'Blessing' Laryea who comes up against his gym mate Albert Mensah. Just like Ahiadekey, Laryea has proven that he could travel the distance if the going gets tough.
Last Friday's bouts saw three boxers win unanimously. Korley Collison defeated Sarfo 'Kumasi Tyson' Bugri while Albert Mensah defeated Martin Ahiadekey. Current national lightweight champion, Samuel Amoako, defeated Prince Ofotsu.
The Last Warrior is a Deep Focus Productions concept and is sponsored by Kasapa. Supporting sponsors are Bacchus Energy drink, TT Brothers Limited, Baron Distilleries, AB's Royal Hotel, Mobile Water Garri Gbix and TV3.
