Ho, June 25, GNA - Military officers have identified the drum-like object washed ashore at Abelikope near Aflao on Monday as a buoy used in anchoring ships.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ahmed Issah Yakubu, Aflao District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that a hole was punched at its side but nothing came out of it.
The object is the size of four 50-gallon drums, is seven feet long, yellow in colour and has two metal hooks and a flat plate resembling a satellite disc.
Mr Yakubu said personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service are trying to saw it into two.
He said those who found the object and the owners of the land close to the beach where it was brought ashore are laying claim to whatever treasure they anticipate the object may contain.
