The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced a GH¢1,000 Christmas support package for traders who consistently comply with its directive to conduct business within designated trading areas in the Central Business District (CBD).
Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey disclosed the initiative after the National Sanitation Exercise on Saturday, November 7, explaining that it was intended to reward traders who observe the Assembly's red-line restrictions introduced last year to regulate commercial activities and improve order in the city.
He said the AMA had recorded different levels of compliance, with some traders respecting the designated boundaries while others continued to operate outside the approved spaces.
To determine eligible beneficiaries, the Mayor said the Assembly would undertake random inspections and monitor traders on several occasions before selecting those who qualify for the support.
He emphasised that traders must demonstrate sustained compliance, noting that passing a single inspection would not be enough to secure the package.
According to him, the items would be distributed during the Christmas season as part of the Assembly's efforts to support market women and recognise traders who cooperate with its regulations.
“We are putting our packages together. Some of them are worth GH¢1,000. When we randomly return to town and realise that you have consistently stayed within your designated space, we will monitor you on three or four occasions. If you are found complying with the directive, we will give you this package of GH¢1,000,” he said.
