President John Dramani Mahama has announced an additional GH¢500 million allocation for district housing projects in the Volta Region as part of efforts to expand residential development across the area.
The funding is expected to support housing initiatives in various districts and complement the ongoing Oxygen City project in Ho, the regional capital.
Speaking at the 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival on Saturday, November 7, President Mahama disclosed that work on the Oxygen City project was set to begin following the sod-cutting ceremony he had already performed.
“Under housing, I cut the sod for the start of the work on the Oxygen City in the Volta Regional capital. In Ho, a further allocation of 500 million cedis has been made for district housing projects,” he announced.
He also assured the people of Anloga that their district would receive its fair share of the housing programme.
Touching on market infrastructure, the President said preparations were progressing for the proposed 24-hour markets in Anloga and Aflao, adding that plans for the Aflao-Ashigame market had reached an advanced stage.
He explained that land for the project had been secured and the design completed, paving the way for construction to commence.
“The technical team from China is being financed through a grant from the Chinese government. The team is expected to arrive to confirm the project sites and designs, after which the $30 million grant will be released to commence construction,” he stated.
